Ultra Tec V2 96 Faceting Machine:

The Ultra Tec is one of the most expensive machines on the market.  Although it works as a hard stop machine, you can set up the precision dial indicator accessory to "cut to the needle" as in a soft stop machine.   For more information on hard stop and soft stop machines, check out our How-to & Tips section.

One of the things people either love or hate about the Ultra Tec is the cranking mechanism for mast height adjustment.  It takes quite a few rotations of the crank to raise the mast height from the girdle cutting position into position to cut your mains and vice versa.  The advantage of the cranking mechanism is that you can reliably return to the exact same mast height again and again.  The cranking mechanism is very fine, so precise adjustments in mast height are easy to make.

Angles on the Ultra Tec are set with a vernier scale.  This allows for extrapolation in between tenths of a degree for repeatability. However, the reading on the angle dial is screen printed on and is not very accurate. The angle dial mechanism uses a hair thin spring to reduce backlash. The Ultra Tec V2 96 Faceting Machine is only available as a right hand machine.  The white laminate base in the picture at the top of this page is no longer available.  Instead, the Ultra Tech comes with a solid oak base as shown in the picture below.
